The first early intervention center for children with deafblindness, in Sibiu

Sibiu, December 11, 2025.  Sense International Romania organised in Sibiu on Thursday, December 11, 2025, the round table "For every child, together", part of the project with the same name, implemented with the support of the OMV Petrom Foundation, through the "Azi. Împreună" financing fund, 2025 edition.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the principles and benefits of early intervention for newborns and young children with sensory disabilities, as well as the concrete ways in which those present can get involved in the process of establishing a new specialised early intervention service - for every child, together.

Mr. Paul Kuttesch, Vice President of the Sibiu County Council, assured all those present of the full support of the institution he represents:

"We believe that this project is a major step towards ensuring specialised services at the local level that will help in the early identification of the risks of delays in children's development and will contribute to providing the most appropriate interventions for every child, from the first months of life. Working together – professionals, doctors, teachers, parents and authorities – we can provide a safer, more inclusive and more dignified path for every child."

According to the project, 40 children aged 0 to 6 and their families will benefit from early intervention services, and 20 specialists in education, health and social services from Sibiu County will have increased capacities to provide quality early identification and intervention services

All those present responded positively to our initiative, representatives of the Sibiu School Inspectorate, the Sibiu County Resource and Educational Assistance Center, the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection, the Sibiu Family Physicians' Association, the Ascultă Viața Association, the Ara Clinic, Audionova, Sonosib Audiology.

“I wish to emphasize the importance of this early intervention service. It requires adequate resources, norms and legislative frameworks, aspects that we must work on together. Let us remain united in this endeavor, for every child together”

said Ms. Carmen Firu, inspector for special education within the Sibiu School Inspectorate.

This new service established within the Inclusive Education School Center no. 2 in Sibiu – the only one of its kind in the county – will address newborns and young children with sensory disabilities and deafblindness in Sibiu, as well as their families. The service will represent the resource that children and their families need for the best start in life, with the objective of providing essential early health interventions at the community level.
