About us
Sense International Romania is a Romanian organization established in 2001 with the aim to improve the life of people with deafblindness and multisensory impairments in our country. SIR is the only organization in Romania actively fighting for the rights of people with deafblindness.
Through national programs which promote early intervention for babies born with sensory impairments, the education of children with deafblindness/MSI and provision of vocational and pre-professional services, SIR successfully manages to change for the better the lives of hundreds of people with this type of disability. Our area of interest as an organization is represented by four major strategic directions: promoting the rights of people with deafblindness, health, education and social inclusion.
Vision
A world where all children and adults with deafblindness can become active members of the society
Mission
We work in partnership with people with deafblindness, their families, carers and specialists, to ensure they all have access to counselling, opportunities and support.
Values
Respect for diversity – we embrace diversity and promote fairness and respect for all.
Individual value – we recognize the intrinsic value and potential of each individual.
Participation and inclusion – we promote opportunities so that the most marginalized categories can make their voice heard.
Equality – we actively promote respect for human rights and challenge prejudice and discrimination.
Sustainability – we work with others to ensure that the support given to people with deafblindness and their families can continue in the future.
Principles
People with deafblindness /MSI and their families are at the heart of the activities and vision of Sense International Romania.
Rights-based approach – our work is based on the premise that all the people with deafblindness /MSI must be respected.
Partnership – we work with non-governmental organizations, local, national and international government institutions to ensure respect for the rights of the people with deafblindness / MSI and their families. Our partnerships are based on mutual benefits and building collaborative relationships.
I statements
I will listen to others: regardless of how something is communicated to me: gestures, facial expressions, body posture, sign language, reference objects, written or verbal language, I will actively listen.
I will understand and answer: I will do my best to understand what is being communicated to me and answer every time in time and respectfully.
I will show respect to others: I will respect and treat others as I wish to be respected and treated.
I will show honesty and openness: I will be open to the reasons for my actions and give my honest opinion, knowing that it will be respected.
I will participate and contribute: I will participate as much as I can and contribute on my own initiative.
I will take informed risks: I will take into account the benefits of taking a risk, as well as what can happen if things go wrong. Where I can, I'll take risks rather than avoid them.
I will find reason to celebrate: I will recognize that all achievements, however small it may seem to me, are cause for celebration.
No decision about me without me: I always seek to involve people in making decisions that affect them.
