International Conference on Early Intervention for Children with Deafblindness or Multisensory Impairments
In March 18th – 20th, Sense International Romania organises The International Conference on Early Intervention for Children with Deafblindness or Multisensory Impairments, in Bucharest.
This event approaches various themes around the development of children with multisensory impairments, such as:
- Early diagnosis of visual impairments;
- C.H.A.R.G.E. Syndrome – causes, identification and impact on infants;
- Diagnosing hearing impairments at birth;
- The role of early intervention for newborn babies;
- The implications of multisensory impairments.
The results of the Research Report on Early Intervention for Children with Multisensory Impairments in Romania 2007 – 2014 – Best Practice Model will be presented during the last session of the conference.
The special guest of this conference is His Excellency Jean Hubert Lebet – Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Romania.
Mrs. Liana Mitran – Inspector General for Special Education and Special Integrated Education within the Ministry of Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Ileana Vătavu, Coordinator of the Programme for the Prevention of Blindness in Premature Newborn Babies with Retinopathy of Prematurity within the Ministry of Health, Mrs. Mihaela Ungureanu, President of the National Authority for People with Disabilities and Mrs. Izabella Gabriela Popa, Senior Counsellor within the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption will welcome the participants at the official opening.
The conference will be attended by specialists in education, health and social services from Romania and abroad, representatives of national and local authorities, Sense International Romania partners in implementing the project, parents of children with deafblindness, as well as other NGOs active in the field of disability.
Presentations on various themes around deafblindness and early intervention mechanisms will be held by experts from Great Britain and Romania, such as: Dr. Andrew Baikie – Consultant Ophthalmologist with the Government Health Service of Fife, Scotland and Senior Lecturer with the Medical School at the University of St. Andrews, Dr. Sebastian Cozma – Coordinator of the Neonatal Hearing Screening Programme – Clinical Rehabilitation Hospital Iasi and President of the Romanian Society of Audiology and Pathology of Communication, Dr. Jeremy Kirk – Consultant Endocrinologist and Associate Professor at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in UK and Dr. Heather Murdoch – teacher, lecturer, writer and researcher, Honorary Lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
